Question: What are beans in IBM Maximo

This is an interesting matter for me. I never did understand why Maximo doesn't use the Application Servers connection pools with all the benefits it brings such as connection management, clustering, etc and insists on using their own database connection management. Unfortunately this technote doesn't explain the choice of keeping Maximo's own database connection management.

Changing Maximo's DB password at 16:27

When changing Maximo's database password there are 4 files where you must modify with the new password. The files are:

• maximo.properties
• rsse_maximo.properties
• actuatei18ntext.properties located at [ACTUATE_HOME]\iServer\bin\com\actuate\ExternalText
• actuatei18ntext.properties located at [MAXIMO_HOME]\applications\activeportal\WEB-INF\classes\com\actuate\ExternalText

If you fail to update one of this files you'll either be unable to start Maximo or unable to run Actuate reports where you'll receive the most infamous Assert statement failed error.

Prevent Doclinks folder from listing at 10:12

If you're using WebSphere as the application server for your Maximo 6, after configuring Doclinks in Maximo you may notice that you can access the listing of your Doclinks folder if you fetch just the URL of the server. This happens when using Apache (IBM HTTP Server) as web server.

This directory listing is part of Apache standard functionality and you can prevent it by using the IndexIgnore directive in the httpd.conf configuration file.

To block all listings use the following statement:

IndexIgnore *

This way you tell Apache not to list any folders.

Maximo 6 HOWTO - Obtaining MAXMESSAGE translated and with variables replaced at 16:55

Hi,

This HOWTO is about how to get a message from MAXMESSAGES translated and with it's variables ({0}) conveniently replaced, since it took me some time doing it I present my solution.

This example is for a class Remotely connected, via RMI, to Maximo. The message being used is the Maximo's welcome message.
