IBM Technote: Explanation of Maximo Application Server Connection Pooling and Management

This is an interesting matter for me. I never did understand why Maximo doesn't use the Application Servers connection pools with all the benefits it brings such as connection management, clustering, etc and insists on using their own database connection management. Unfortunately this technote doesn't explain the choice of keeping Maximo's own database connection management.

This IBM technote explains how the Maximo Application Server maintains it's own pool of available database connections and assigns them to Maximo Business Objects upon request. It also explains the controlling parameters and how the connections are maintained. This document is valid for Maximo versions from 5.1 to 7.1.1.
